It was Easter (April 2018), my daughter Anna was about to go to her very first egg-hunts event and I was just overly excited about that. My husband and I tried to find a lovely bag for her but could not find one, so I made this little bag quickly the night before event. I could say this is my very first crochet design, made fresh on the hook, before my first amigurumi design (at that time, I even didn’t even know how to write a pattern yet). As a crochet beginner, I was so happy and proud of it!
Time flies, my little Anna is growing up and so am I. This bunny bag became her favorite toy. She brings it everywhere to collect flowers, leaves, and small rocks (her most favorite thing ever!). About me, I also learned many new things in crochet: designing, selling my patterns, and now doing my own website and writing my very first blog! This is the perfect time to write down the pattern of this very first design, and I’d love to share it free as a gift to say thank you to all of you, my fellow crocheters.

Let’s celebrate my very first blog with this lovely bunny bag, which I believe this is a perfect item for every little girl.

MATERIALS

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in cream and pink color.
Hook 3mm and 4mm.
Safety eyes 8mm/ black buttons or small amount of black yarn for bunny eyes.
Pink blush for the cheeks.

Note: The size of the bag will vary, depending on the yarn and hook used. If you use the same materials as me, the finished size is 16x17cm (not include the strap).

ABBREVIATIONS – US TERMS

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc-inc – half double crochet increase
hdc-dec – half double crochet decrease
dc-inc – double crochet increase
st/ sts – stitch/ stitches
sl st – slip stitch
* … * … x – repeat instructions x times
(…) – number of stitches of each round/row
{…} – work the stitches all into the same stitch

LET’S START!

Bunny ears
Use 3mm hook.
Inner ear (make 2, pink color)

Fasten off.

Outer ear (Make 2, cream color)

Do not fasten off.

Holding the inner ear and outer ear with wrong sides together, working through both the thicknesses (photo 1), sc in each st around, join with a sl st in the first st.

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Bag

Use 4mm hook and double strands of cream yarn (photo 2).

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Using double strands of pink color, embroider some hearts on the lower part of the bag (photo 3).

Embroider a nose at round 14 of the bag. Embroider the eyes on either side of the nose at round 15. If you use safety eyes or black buttons, insert the safety eyes between rounds 15 & 16.

Strap

Use 4mm hook and double strands of cream yarn.
Crochet an i-cord (3 stitches) about 25 cm (photo 4).
You can also attach strands of pink and cream yarns on one side of the bag, make a braid and attach on the other side (photo 5).

Assembly

Sew the ears on either side of the bag.
Sew the strap on the bag.
Use pink blush to add color on cheeks of bunny face.
